Ruth Roman was born on June 22, 1939 in Lynn Massachusetts. Ruth Roman was the first child born to Lithuanian Jewish parents Mary Pauline Gold & Abraham Roman. The young woman was just a teenager when her father who worked as the carnival barker, passed away. Her mother was forced to take on jobs including waitressing and cleaning. Ruth was raised in the poor Boston Tenement area in Massachusetts. She went to school in the area. However, she was only in school for two years before taking a break to pursue her acting career. The path she chose was filled with challenges. When she was offered a job at New York as a model for a magazine that dealt with detectives, she found it difficult to secure work in the stage. She then worked as an hat-checker at a night club before calling it quits and returning to Boston. She made ends meet with her ushering duties in the morning, while at night performing with the New England Repertory Company, her first regular acting gig. In addition, she was a drama student and eventually graduated from the Bishop-Lee Theatre School.
